Pennito Privacy Policy
Last updated 28 October 2026
The short version
Pennito keeps your expenses only on your iPhone. We can't see that data.
- No account or sign-up.
- No analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs.
- No servers of our own that receive your data.
- We never sell or share your data, because we never have it.
The only personal data we handle is what you send us if you email support.
Who we are
Pennito is made by Buttersmooth, a sole proprietorship (enskild firma) registered in Sweden. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Buttersmooth.
For anything privacy-related, email support@buttersmooth.io.
This policy covers the Pennito iPhone app. It does not cover the buttersmooth.io website or the App Store itself, which Apple operates under its own privacy policy.
What Pennito stores and where
Everything Pennito stores stays inside the app on your iPhone. Nothing is synced or sent anywhere, including to us.
| Data | Why Pennito keeps it |
|---|---|
| Expenses: amount, currency, a short description, optional payment method, date and category | To show you what you've spent |
| Categories | To group your expenses |
| Check-ins, streak freezes and pauses | To calculate your streak |
| Your display name, if you add one | To personalise the app |
| Settings, such as your currency and reminder time | To remember your choices |
| The date you first opened Pennito and the app version at that time | To honour early-user benefits in future versions |
| Reminders, if you turn them on | Scheduled by iOS on your iPhone to remind you to check in |
No sync. Pennito doesn't use iCloud sync, CloudKit or any server. Your data exists only on the iPhone where you entered it, and in that iPhone's backups.
First-launch date. Pennito records when you first opened the app so we can honour benefits for early users in future versions. The check happens on your device; the date is never sent to us.
Backups and new phones. Pennito's data is included in your regular iPhone backups, to iCloud or to a computer. It moves to a new iPhone only if you restore from such a backup or use Apple's Quick Start transfer. If you install Pennito fresh, or have excluded it from iCloud Backup, it starts empty. Backups are controlled by you and Apple, not by us.
What we don't do
Pennito contains no third-party analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking code.
- We don't track you across apps or websites.
- We don't show ads.
- We don't build profiles of your spending or behaviour.
- We don't sell, rent or share personal data with anyone.
Information Apple shares with us
Apple gives us aggregated statistics, never your expense data.
- App Store statistics. Apple reports totals such as downloads, country and device type. These don't identify you.
- Crash reports and usage data. If you've chosen in your iPhone settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple sends us anonymised crash reports and basic usage figures. You can turn this off at any time in iOS settings under Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements.
We use this information only to fix bugs and improve Pennito.
When you contact support
If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write. We use it only to reply and to help with your request.
- Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering your questions (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).
- Retention: we delete support emails once your request is resolved and no longer needed, and at most 24 months after our last exchange.
- Processors: our email provider stores these messages on our behalf under a data processing agreement. We don't share them with anyone else.
Please don't send us screenshots or exports of your expenses unless we need them to fix a problem.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us to access, correct, delete or export any personal data we hold about you, or object to how we use it. In practice, the only data we hold is support correspondence; your expense data is already fully in your control.
Email support@buttersmooth.io and we'll respond within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Swedish data protection authority, Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY), or to the authority in the EU country where you live.
Deleting your data
You can delete your Pennito data yourself at any time; we can't do it for you because we don't have it.
- Single entries: delete them in the app.
- Everything: delete the Pennito app. This removes all Pennito data from your iPhone; no copy exists anywhere else.
- Backups: iPhone backups made before you deleted the app may still contain Pennito's data until those backups are deleted or replaced.
To have support emails deleted, write to support@buttersmooth.io.
Children
Pennito isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from them. Because the app sends us no data, no child's data reaches us through the app. If a child has emailed us, contact us and we'll delete the message.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Pennito handles data, for example when we add new features, we'll update this policy and the date at the top. For significant changes we'll also tell you in the app before they take effect.
